Visual sound Jekyll and hyde overdrive? anyone? i was wondering if anybody here can share their opinions on this overdrive pedal? how does it compare to the ibanez tube screamer and fulltone fulldrive 2 pedals? thanx |

one side is a ts808 copy the other looks like an marshall petal. The cz battery used can cause osi trace it down to the wilco brand battery in a friends unit. Some of the caps IMO are not what I would use, for the money is a good unit if you are looking for a good TS at a lower price sound check out the TS7's. I think a good dual effect would be a TS and Rat that one could switch the order(BIG HINT). People I know use both alone and together and they change the order for different sounds. I think the J&h needs a cap tuneup. |

Yup, it could definitely use a cap tuneup. It's full of small value electros and those tiny film types that don't inspire confidence. The Hyde side is a derivative of the Marshall Bluesbreaker, it's got the first two gain stages of the Bluesbreaker (with some changes) plus a couple of other stages for the mid-EQ. IMHO it's a great pedal for the money, same price as a re-issue Tubescreamer and it sounds slightly better, plus you get the other gain side. |

ditto for what the others posted here except I can't comment on the caps. i will support that it is an excellent value and offers a lot of flexibility. also, the footswitch arrangement is very clever. because of where the switches are located in relationship to each other, you can switch each "side" of the effect on/off independently or switch both sides on/off at the same time or a psuedo toggle by having one side on with the other side off and by stepping on both switches at the same time, toggle between the two sides. if this sounds confusing, go to their website, i think they probably have a better explanation for it... still, very clever and without a lot of extra circuitry added to the pedal. the Jeckyll side does a very good approximation of a ts808/ts9... if there's a difference between it and the original, it isn't much especially considering that i've never heard any two TS type pedals that sounded the same anyway. The Hyde side reminds me of a Boss DS-1 type distortion but with an added sweepable EQ... very nice. I tried one out for a couple weeks and ended up taking it back. Not because it wasn't a good pedal but I prefer my Boss OD-3 for overdrive and an older MIJ Boss DS-1 or Ibanez Tube King for the high gain stuff. BUT, if I was starting out from scratch as far as stomp boxes go, I would probably just use something like the J&H and call it quits. One thing I will point out though on the negative side. It did seem be noisier than the boss pedals that I use. I imagine that the added noise could be because of the inferior caps that the others posted about... who knows. pHiLtHy |

| Chris | I can only echo the comments of the other guys; an excellent unit, which offers great flexabilty. Great Marshall-style crunch with the Hyde, cleaner, brighter tones from the Jekyll. Let down only by some cheap component substitutions. Chris |

I tried one, and thought it was pretty good. When I did a side by side comparison with my TS9 and Real Tube, it sounded thinner, not really bad, but it wasn't better than my existing setup. So I returned it. Could be an apple and orange thing. Steve |
