EQ'S Does any body use an eq pedal like the Boss ge 7 for instance. Are these worthwhile for tweaking a nice sound ??? |

| R.G. | Don't get me started. Go read the Guitar Effects FAQ at GEO, especially the Distortion 101 section. Pre- and post-distortion EQ is the biggest single step you can make in producing good tone frome a distortion device. The primo setup is to get two, or one surplused out stereo hifi graphic EQ, and put one before and one after. The pre-distortion EQ picks which frequencies get distorted, the post distortion EQ shapes the resulting tone. |

Thanks I guess I am more concerned with the quality and versitility of the smaller pedals vs more sophisticated rack type. Also their use on a non effects loop amp.( 67 Bandmaster) |

i use a ge-7 for boosting my amp for extra gain by cranking the level slider. i think they are the best eq pedal made, and for your purposes i think it's fine. that said however, i don't use it to eq my amp. my feeling after years of using them for that [other eq's too] that if you cant get what you want from your amp without an eq, you need a different amp. something about adding eq to an amp, be it pre or post distrtion, just doesn't sound right to me. i have a marshall that has the right sound and eq curve by itself, and thats what i've always been looking for. it just works. dale |
