Re: BOSS SD1 to IBanez ts808 mods? I can't imagine doing this to an SD-1. I use both a modded TS5/808 and an SD-1 on stage and find that the SD-1 has a very likable sound, different than a TS-808, actually less "colored" to my ear. With TS5's & 9's readily available and not terribly expensive, especially if you find a used one it doesn't make sense to me to change a perfectly good Boss pedal into something it isn't, unless you just want to prove that it can be done and that you can do it. I have done many projects for that reason alone and can fully understand the enjoyment of completing such an endeavor. Just my $.02. RE |

| Dave | Dave, Its very Possible. Like Jeff said the layouts are pretty darn close and its mostly component swaps. I did this facelift on my sd-1 and it sounds great. The only thing I didnt do was replace the pots with the correct values. This gave me a greater range of distortion and tone. Pretty kool. All together it took me about an hour to do it all. I say go for it. -Dave |

David, I haven't actually done the conversion to mine yet, so I can't tell you what the result will be, but it should sound just like a TS808. The conversion looks pretty easy, though, and as soon as finals are over I'll be converting mine and I'll post the results. If you want the details of the conversion just send me an e-mail (anybody else that's interested, just do the same), and I'll send you the info. Take it easy. Jeff S. |

A simple mod is to just change out the two 1uf electros and replace them with 1uf films. All the other parts are good quality IMO, it has a JRC4558 stock. I like other chips but that one is OK. Installing the 51pf cap is not needed I think the boss PCB layout is better(FWIW I do not like caps in feedback loops I like to filter before the opamp). I build most of my effects point to point star ground and power leads that can cause problems at 90 degrees if possable, I rarely have an osc problems. I like the sound of mine with just the 1ufs I did not check the output buffer. Alone it sounds a little thin but it has that sound that might sound good with others. |

>(FWIW I do not like caps in feedback loops I like to filter before the opamp). One of the most sought after and great sounding pedals has extensive filtering in the feedback loop. It makes the TL chip sound great! Generally I do agree with you! |

Good point Aron. I have old TI opamp books 1 of 2 large thin grey ones. I will try to find them one of the books has a good section on filters and integraters and some of the problems with caps in feedback loops and fast rise time signals. Guitar by themselfs have slow rise time but put it thur a sharp edge fuzz can be problems |
