Best DIY Envelope filter pedal? any opinons
seen a couple of schematics on the web but its impossible to know how they sound. Im looking for the sound of an old vintage (mutron?) i played at a vintage guitar store, i remember it was dark blue, and priced around $600-800. anyone remember the sound of the guitar solo on Edie Brickell and the new bohemians' song "What I am". Or the sound of Jerry Garcia's tone on alot of stuff. Thats the sound im looking for, very vocal. ive got a boss one that has the basic idea, but its definitely not there.
thanks for your input!

I like the GEO "Neutron", which is a clone of the Mutron III, same circuit. But then, I would.

Toner transfer iron-on PCB sheets and ready to solder PCB's are available.

Do you have any discussion/dissection of it
planned for your site?

I recently got a HAZ Labs Mutron III+ (lovely sound)
for a friend and while I won't have time to map the
circuit, it has a lot more to it than the older
Mutron schemata I see posted such as at
<http://www.lynx.bc.ca/~jc/pedals.html>

A comparison between the original and the HAZ
Labs reissue would certainly be informative,
but time-consuming to research.

Until you adapt your technique to the envelope
follower/generator, you're always wishing for
more knobs.

Heh.

R.G. a must have is an effect loop after the detector like the lovetone meatball,Q tron +. A bass and a harsh fuzz left hand bass heaven, killer sounds to be had.

It is interesting that an effects loop has become a must have for the Mutron III. A few years ago, a client asked if I could modify his Q-tron for an FX Loop. I got the pedal and designed in an FX loop after the first gain stage and before the Drive stage. I put it all inside the box and it did sound cool. Funny thing though, about 8 months to a year later, the Q-tron+ came out and wouldn't ya know it, it had an FX loop. Sometimes I wonder if my mod made somebody rich? I need to get a Q-tron+ and trace it out and see if it mathches my design.

Or maybe I will put it on the net for free. If there is enough interest I will do it.

CJ I remembered your post about this, The meatball has the loop stock. I will try to find out when the meatball came out. I would not be supriced if your mod was copied it is possable someone else came up with it a well

Cool! I would be interested in any info. You never know, they could have expanded on a similar idea. Anyway, the client was from Oregon so, if the meatball mfg. is from this area, maybe it is part of a mod I did?

Thanks Gus,
CJ
