Greg ????WAH
A bud of mine(who plays no instruments)came across a wah and gave it to me knowing that I play. I thought I had seen or heard of just about every brand but was unfamilar with this one. On the top it has APOLLO CRIER ,its kinda cheesy lookin but sounds pretty cool as a tone effect. As for age It looks, just guessing,'70s. Does anybody know anything about this particular pedal?

It is Japanese made wah, they were sold under a LOT of different names, Apollo, Companion, Jax, Mica , Univox etc....
I had one of the fuzz wahs, the wah was actually pretty good, fuzz sucked.
They also made some wahs that have siren, surf, wind noise etc...
I believe that the mother company was Shin - Ei
I have heard that they became Korg, but don't kow fo r sure about that .

I just got a fuzz wah (actually my second one) made by Kent that has a Shin-Ei stamp on the bottom. These were sold out of the Sears catalog up here in Canada.

Wish I could tell you how it sounds...this one came out of an apartment where 3 people lived, and chain smoked. The thing is soooooo full of cigarette dust and nicotine that none of the pots or switches work...which sucks because it has 2(!) DPDT footswitches in it!

Gonna go soak this sucker in lysol......

I'd try Simple Green followed by compressed air, WD-40 & more air...
Then a good contact cleaner, Caig MCL for the pots, D-5 & P-5 for the switches.

Does anybody know how to do the mods that would give a wah the surf, siren, or wind sounds?
I've got a couple extra crybaby's just dying to be Frankensteind. Siren would be very cool!
Take care, Jered

It wasn't a simple mod really.
The siren was a separate circuit, the wind or Hurricane as it is labled on mine was a noise gen. through the wah circuit with the coil shorted which turns it into a volume control. The surf effect was the noise gen. through the wah circuit.
The siren is rather cool, especially through an echo set fairly long with several repeats. You get the effect of three or more tones following each other. AIR RAID!!! :-)

A siren is absolutely essential for surf music, so you can do the siren & then shout "everyon outa the pool!!".
I think it wd be best to have a completely separate siren ckt, with a button to trigger it. You could easy mod up one of those kiddies noise machines, like you get on keyrings for 'stress releif'. Just add the output into the output of the wah.
If you want to do it the hard way, you cd make a siren from a 555 timer.
