I just got a ss.echo from a buddy,what shall we do to take the hiss monster out.Thanks pg.

Sit back and enjoy it...it's the "vintage" sought-after analog sound you're hearing!  
 
How much hiss are we talking about here? I, like Eric Johnson and you, have one and the hiss isn't really that noticable to me, unless I really focus in on it. Clean the heads carefully, and make sure you have a fresh tape in it. If that don't satisfy you, maybe you need to go digital.

Demagnetize the head. Residual permanent magnetism will record as hiss. We used to demagnetize our cassette recording heads at least once every 8 hours of use for best possible recording quality. How many hours you think an old Echoplex has run without being demagged once??
