Help with "J" series Small Stone Hello all...A friend of mine gave me an old EH Small Stone of course that doesn't work.....I am in the process of replacing the old Poly green caps, checking resistors, and replacing the electrolytic caps also.....One puzzling thing about my pedal is that a J series schematic I have here shows the transistors as being 2N 5087.My pedal has 1 2N 5088 and 1 BC 309....The other 2 transistors are in a bag off of the board, and these are also BC 309's.....Could someone tell me if all 4 transistors are supposed to be all 2N 5087's....Do the EH 1048 chips usually hold up over the years?...Thanks for any help on this..John S. |

Mine isn't an Issue J, but it is an original one ('80 or '81 from the date codes). It has 1 2N5088 and 3 2N5087's. I haven't had to replace any parts and it still works fine. Stuart |

Stuart...thanks for this info.I was looking in my Mouser catalog today, and noticed the difference between the 2N 5087 and the 5088's was that one is rated as an npn transistor, and the other was shown as a pnp. What's the difference as far as the way these transistors work? Thanks again Stuart for being nice enough to open your pedal up for me.John S. |
