Sounds like mr. johnson has something that we all like to call "obsessive, compulsive disorder". Seriously, though, changing from Sovtek to Mullard tubes is one thing, or even different makes of IC's or transistors is reasonable, but some of his statements are really assanine, and insult the intelligence of most people... c'mon... common sense people...I wonder how many kids are out there, trying different manufacturers of rubber bands on their fuzzfaces just to get the EJ tone. I would say the rubber band is there to ease changing batteries, myself, but hey, whatever floats your boat

Well said, Reb. That's exactly how I feel. Wait a minute... do rubber bands resonate?!

A few years ago I scored a stash of circa-'89 NOS Acme #6 pure-latex rubber bands, and I've been very happy with their performance. They're not the gray kind but the cream-colored kind - fabulous tone when wrapped around my Big Muff and Boss CE-2 (not the Taiwan kind, but the Japanese type). If you A-B them with the current Acme product, you can really hear the difference. Don't even bother with OfficeMax generics...

Hi

Say, doesn't he have the guts of a Fulltone '69 in that Fuzz Face box? He sure does sound great, whatever his personal quirks.

for a completely transparent feel, try the trojan brand latex stuff. Jokes aside, but the guy does get great tone!

I forgot to mention, his screwless FF is silicon!
The article says that his Fuzz Face is a silicon transistor version, also. Hey, that's why Germanium sounds better than the silicon versions! We forgot to take the screws out of the case!

Seriously, pick up the GP with Beck on the cover. May 2000, page 24.
