What is in a Sansamp original?
Does anyone know what the active devices are
in the original Sansamp (with dipswitches.)
Does this circuit bare any resemblance to
other pedals. I used one for a recording
session at the request of the producer and I
was pleased with the tone I got.

Hi Tonecat, I had one of those, wish I keptit, they from what I have been told, it has mosfet transistors, some negative feedback to somehow bias the fets to sound good, and of course thier speakersimulation filter, maybe some resistors, caps and inductor to zero in on the speaker frequency. I would like find some info too on what exactly is going on in there, I used mine with a Roland JC120 and that was actually a pretty good sound for not having any tubes in there, might end up doing that again someday! Let me know if you find out any more on this please, and thanks!

Mark Buckingham Re: What is in a Sansamp original? - explained!
Actually, there is a very, very small gnome in there with headphones, a guitar, and several very small tube amps.

He listens to what you are playing through the headphones, and then, plays it himself on his guitar. The sound of his amp is then routed through the output jack.

Sometimes, if you listen real close while you're moving the switches, you can hear him rushing around to change the settings on his amps.

Re: ROTFL
so that little gnome must be damn fast or does he have a slight delay from picked note to gnome-note ??

Of course there's a delay, but since the gnome is so small, the delay is too.

What's really hard for the gnome is when someone starts playing old Skynard tunes. Gnomes hate that stuff!

Darn, so that's why I never could get those Uriah tunes sounding right through that thing....
Nice thing to try is to soak the sansamp in a bucket of beer for a couple of minutes (gnomes love the stuff...) and hear assorted punk classics while you're playing, well, whatever...

While we're at the funny stories: I actually just bought one and transfered the money by homebanking. I phoned the guy to say that he could sent it to me and he told that in the meantime he has got it stolen from his car while he left it open for a few minutes.

I got the money back, no problems, but I would have liked the unit better. I really need "something" to stick in the end of the effects chain to make it sound amp-and-speaker-like.

Maybe that gnome stuck his feet out the jackholes and ran away with it, I don't know.
