Re: Classic Tube Revealed!! (initial report) Jim, Do you have a schematic specifically of the FX53 or FX52? Either one would be a help. Stuart was kind enough to mail me his, but I'm curious if you have another one or a more complete one. I've got two of these screwy pedals now and actually there are three gain regimens as far as I can tell. 1) at low gain (less then 40%) I think only the diodes in the feedback loop clip. Produces a bass heavy TS type sound. Works great after my Soul Bender 2) at 40% - 90% the diodes from output to ground start to clip. Produces a heavier clipping sound like a fuzz. 3) at 90% and higher I have no idea yet what's producing the distorion, but it's insane. I suspect its the diode in the collector load or maybe some sort of CMOS type distortion. I don't really know, but it's crazy. |

Re: Classic Tube I have the hand made layout from Stuart. I have never tried to trace a circuit. I have the FX53 on auction at the moment. The bidding is low, so I suspect I'll keep it and mod it to sound brighter. Keep the good ideas coming! Jim |

Re: Classic Tube Revealed!! (initial report)
Could that be due to the taper of the pot? | |

Maybe, but I think it has more to do with a clipping mode that only kicks in on the final 10% of the gain knob. Sorry I haven't had more time to check out more about this pedal, but I am in the middle of a move right now (not fun in the SF Bay area) and my start-up is currently acting like a dot com. All will be revealed in due time. |
