| anonymous | Re: TS-9 to TS-808 mod...Speak out! I want your opinion! Anonnie, I assume you mean that we couldn't tell the difference between the various varieties of 4558s?? 'Cause I can sure as hell hear a difference between the 4558 and the 75558, for example... As for differences between the various 4558s, I'm inclined to agree with you... Here's some more heresy, I had a chance to pick up an original TS-9 for $60 about 8 years ago. I AB'ed it with my TS-10 (bought used for $30), and found the TS-10 sound to be smoother. I passed on the TS-9 and told a friend, who snapped it up and resold it for $150 last year (oh well, he owes me a beer). A tech friend of mine recently got into the TS-9 to 808 thing and asked me to bring my TS-10 by for a taste test. This guy is Charlottesville/Lynchburg's most sought out tech. He not only couldn't tell between his mods, he also preferred the much-maligned TS-10. Play what you like, trust your own ears. |

I used to own a TS-10 years ago. It's funny -- even though I wasn't crazy about how it sounded at living room volume, it was the easily best-sounding Tubescreamer I had ever used when it came to stage-volume use. It had a nice, creamy sustain. Less harsh and much more musical-sounding than the TS-5 and reissue TS-9 I later owned. Those cheesy 1/4" jacks used to drive me nuts, though. |

Jim- FWIW I've never had a problem with the jacks on mine, and now it is semi-permanently on my pedal board with an ac adaptor, so it stays plugged in. "Nice creamy sustain" is just about exactly how I would describe it, by the way. |
