TS-9 to TS-808 mod...Speak out! I want your opinion!
Thinking about doing the mod. I'm looking for feedback from people who've done it...give me the good, the bad, and the ugly. Thanks.

I did the mod on a reissue TS-9 that sounded raspy and thin and now the pedal is usable. It has been some time but I remember replacing the op amp with a JRC4558 and doing the other two 808 substitutions mentioned in the "Anatomy of a Tube Screamer article" at geofex.com. The pedal sounds a heck of a lot better -fatter & warmer.
As a side note if you are looking for the SRV tone thing you should consider exploring the fuzz face (germanium xstr) type pedals. He used them almost exclusively during his last few years on the planet.
I am not a big fan of the 808/TS-9 but regarding the mod
Go for it!

Scott,
I did the mod to my reissue TS-9. It's smoother than before. Don't know if it sounds exactly like a real TS-808 because I never played through one. But, it does sound better than it did and for the little expense and time involved it's worth trying.

It helps but there is only so much you can do with a TS.
If you want to hear something GOOD! Build Jack Ormans Mini Tubes Pre-Amp, or Arons Shaka III. Unfu__en believable!
Good luck, Jered

I did it on a TS-5 bug screamer. I change the output resistors and it sounded slightly different. I changed the chip and that made more difference.

It was relatively easy to do but if you are scared of breaking something or feel uncomfortable, then have someone else do it for the going cost of around $40-$60.

I did the mod my old original TS-9. Before that, I wasn't a Tube Screamer fan; I'd only used this pedal on one tour and after that, it sat in my old effects box. But having read about the mod on the 'net, I decided to try it. I changed three parts (I already had the 'good' chip in it). I can't believe how much difference three parts made. It's still early days for me but I think the mod is a winner. However , there are alot of good fuzz/OD pedals out there so it comes down to a matter of taste. I haven't played a TS-808 but I just let my ears be the judge as to what sounds good to me. I'll certainly be using it more that before. Read the very excellent Geo article before you get started.

good luck,
Bob

Anyone tryed Analog Mike's mods to these pedals?
I thought about sending mine over to the Analog Man and letting him do the 808 mod and the brown sound mod to mine.So far I've heard only great things about these mods.Anyone else have more on Mike's mods? How does your pedal sound now? Thanks in advance folks! John
