David,

Please read my reply in the Guitar Amps section (under the 5F6A thread).

I like Visual Sound's Rt. 66 and Jeckyll and Hyde Pedals. They are reasonably priced. On the right side they have smooth, sustainy overdrive that preserves the highs and lows of the guitar signal. On the right side they have a compressor and a more intense overdrive respectively, both of which are handy, but not indispensible. Unlike other pedals, they also sound good through just about any amp.

I'd like to second what Maggot said about the J and H. This is a great pedal that, IMHO, cannot be beaten for versitility. I particularly like the Hyde channel which to my ears has a definite Marshall Plexi character. The guitar's natural tone is not overly degraded, even at fairly hefty gain settings.

Does the J&H cleanup when you back off the vol on the geetar?
Thanks DB

I'll 3rd the J&H recommendation. I also like the old DoD Overdrive Preamp 250 for a nice "low fi" distortion sound. In the final analysis, your ears will hear different things so what others like may not be right for you.

IMO, Ebay is a great way to test pedals at home with your own setup, with very little risk. As long as you don't pay too much, you can always auction it back off and your only cost is the shipping. Heck, I even made $15 when I sold back a Vox Valvetone (nice pedal but very similar to the Jekyll side of the J&H.)

I like the Ebay idea!Really want to try something new as I've been using a govner for 10years now along with the usual stone age fuzzface, vox wah and echoplex. As you can tell I find what I like and stick with it!The hunt is on.

Thanks ya'll db
