Original TS9 Trouble
A friend recently gave me an original TS9 that works with a power supply and continues to do so after being unplugged but will not power up with just the 9 volt battery. Any suggestions? KW Rusk

Broken wire. Bad battery clip. Bad contact in the power supply jack. Last one is most probable. There are some rare ones, but these are the ones to check first.

...er... it *is* a fresh battery, right?

I've posted this before, but it never hurts to mention it again.

I am constantly dismayed by the poor quality wire used for commercial battery snaps. So much so that I make my own, and you can too.

1) Get a dead 9v battery (preferably one with a fibre material top and bottom; the plastic ones tend to melt).
2) Pry the metal cover away from the snap end of the battery with some end nippers or needle nose pliers (be careful of the sharp edges).
3) Remove the end plate with the battery snaps. You may have to physically disconnect it from the cells with cutters.
4) Scrape or burnish the little button/rivet inside ends of the end plate so they will take solder.
5) Solder a 5-6 inch piece of red stranded 22AWG wire to the back of the female snap, and a similar piece of black wire to the back of the male snap. If you feel you have exotic needs, feel free to use longer wire.
6) Pry or push out the flat end piece from the other end of the battery and hot glue it over top of the area where you've solder the wires.

It will be a smidgen bigger than the usual ones found in effects, but it will withstand MANY rough and tumble battery changes, and you will likely never ever have to wonder if the source of breakdown is the battery connector.

R shack has the hard plastic 9v clip style with better wire as well.

Maybe yours does, but the Canadian one doesn't.

R.G., thanks for the suggestions. I'll pull it apart this weekend, and yes it has a fresh battery. Mark, I like your clip idea and will try it out but up till now I've been using heavy duty Mouser clips or the better Radio Shack versions in a pinch. Thanks all for the response, KW Rusk.
