Best Pedal for Jimi's "Red House"?
What would be the best pedal to emulate Jimi's sound on "Red House"? An Echoplex is just not practical.
Thanks

Echo aside, his core sound on that song
always hit me as being raunchy. Something like
a small Fender giving its all. I'd add to that
a deep reverb and consider it close.

From a pedal? Hmmm. How about a Boss Blues Driver (no hard-edged distortion desired) and a good spring reverb unit?

The new Line 6 Delay sounds surprisingly similar to a tape delay. Have you tried it?

Also surprisingly tape echo like is the Danelectro echo pedal (can't remember what it's called). I borrowed one last time my Copycat broke and was surprised how good it sounded.

I don't think any pedals (or amps, or guitars) are going to make anyone else sound like Hendrix, though.

Which version? I know of at least five different versions of Red House which have been recorded by Jimi. I say five only because I have five publically released versions, but I don't know if there are more or not. Each version is very different from the others and each uses anything from few or light effects to over the top.

Supposedly he never played it quite the same way twice and that is certainly evidenced on these versions I have. One version is almost clean without apparent effects or heavy overdrive. On the opposite pole is an LA studio version which is sonic mayhem in parts. One version is also played on a Gibson rather than a Strat.
