Re: LBP-1 vs SHO
The SHO is an easy-to-build circuit and sounds very good to my ears. It is different from most other clean boost pedals in that the input impedance is extremely high - 5 Meg ohms. The result is that there is less loading on your guitar's pickups, causing the tone to sound brighter, and more lively, even when the pedal is set only for unity gain.

I have no experience with the Rangemaster, so I can't tell you how it compares with the SHO.

Building a SHO Clone
Does anyone know of resources to build one of these? I've been trying to find a schematic and other building tips with no success.
I noticed that Gus and Jim S. built copies, any helpful insight?

you can also try the GCS overdrive at Aron's site it's a single tran gain boost with eq and a bootstrapped input for high z very snappy sound. I have built the SHO and Rangemaster(Si version) and like them both I have made the 470 bias resistor a 220k in series with a 1meg pot(what I had at the time) use a 500k if you have it the tone is very depended on the bias as R.G. has said in his write up the GE would problly sound better but the Si sounds very good to me I used a 2n3904 the Ic is low so the noise is very low from the transistor.

Thanks!
Lots of good input.
