LBP-1 vs SHO
Are these 2 fx similar?
It seems that they may be due to what they both
cliam to do.
I know that the stock LPB-1 is probably not a
true by-pass like the SHO. But...
I had an LPB-1 years ago & wound up frying it (when I knew
even less than I do now) by trying to make a stomp box out of it. Didn't even have a clue.
Thanks,
Joe

They're similar in concept, very different in detail.

The're both single transistor preamps. The LPB is a bipolar transistor, the SHO is a small-signal MOSFET. Other than that, the circuits are very different.

Thanks,
I have a schematic that I found for the LPB1 and it looks very simple. I've already built the ts-9 clone w/ boost, & the voodoo od. the LPB just looks so easy, it makes it tempting.

The LPB is not a very interesting sound IMHO. You'd do better to build a Rangemaster clone if you have access to some medium gain germanium transistors. The sound is better, and the circuit is almost the same complexity.

but,,,, R.G.,

you know Guitar Player said that the LPB-1 was badder and ??? than even the Micro Amp!

It even started Peavey on their way to great overdriven sound :-)

OK, I've said enough. hehehehe

Any way to torture an LPB-1 to sound better?
