Re: Which pedal?
Besides all of the "talent' ingredients of the tone recipe that make up the Yoodoo Chile sound. A large portion of the sound comes from a cranked Marshall amp (tube plexi).

Hi

I think friday's got your answer; the basic "sound" in terms of equipment Hendrix used on that was a very loud amp, cranked up. That and the wah are it, I'm afraid. If you want some sort of pedal to *approximate* that at lower volumes, a '69 pedal with it's controls adjusted a little to give you less buzz and keep the pedal volume down, with the amp cranked. The "Hendrix' fingers" part I can't help you with.

Thanks folks. The booster in the front end seems to approach that tone quite well. Yes, I know, as I mentioned in my original post and as some folks suggested: if I dime the amp, it'll work best, but my ears will suffer.

I did try a couple of fuzz face pedals and some were more dynamic than others. Some cleaned up real nice, some were downright muddy. Thanks all for your advice.

The beginning of Voodoo Child
(Slight Return) is a wha into a
clean Marshall Plexi.
After the intro, he hits a fuzz.
After trying every fuzz to get
the Hendrix sound, the one
that does it is a Fulltone 70's
Pedal with BC-183L transistors.
It's NOT a germanium fuzz or what
he used in the later part of 1970, a Fuzz Face
with BC-108C transistors.
Roger Mayer's Axis fuzz and Stone Fuzz
are very Hendrixy.

Roger Mayer's Axis Fuzz? Is it still being made today?

Classic Fuzz (Germanium), Octavia, Axis and Stone, the Voodoo line and even a new wah.

The UK one loads faster, but isn't up to date.

Thanks for the addresses. I read the reviews on their products. I also found a schem for the axis fuzz on Geo, so I'll build me the circuit before I go out and spend some $ for the pedal. Is this the kind of fuzz that cleans up real nice with your guitar volume without losing highs? I think that's what I'm aiming for.
