I bought a fender blender
I picked up a Blender on a whim yesterday. It was $159 plus WA state tax (8.9% argh). I have wanted one for years and I thought this was a good price. But now I am suffering borderline buyers remorse... Was this a good price?

I've seen them advertised for more in Vintage Guitar, so you may have gotten a "bargain", relatively speaking.

The ultimate criterion is whether it makes your heart go "zing" when you step on it. The last and only time I ever heard one was in a jazz club in Montreal in 1973 or 74, so I have no idea if it grunts in a way which makes it discriminably different from the rest of the product glut out there. It DID have a good quality chassis, if I remember correctly, though.

The case was the main reason I forked out the money instead of building my own. The knobs are nice and protected all around great design one screw access to the battery... I have breadboarded one of these before and it did sound like an original. I have seen them go for as low as $40 upward to $300. I would NEVER pay that much for one of these. Maybe Fender should reissue the thing.

It was funny that it is mentioned in the same breath as a big muff and a roland Bee Baa. I have given a listen to the roland on the Soundfrenzy site. That thing sounds increadable. More useful than the Blender or the Muff, perhaps.

Hi, Nic. I sold one of these at a guitar show to a dealer for $150, so it seems you got a great deal. What an indescribable noise this thing made! A little extreme for me. It had the most destructive low end of any fuzz I have heard and sounded monstrous with a bass. However, mine did not have true bypass and I didn't want to modify it. I may build another from RG Keen's site, since he has PCB's and such.

Nic,

Just curious, where did you get it? I'm assuming in the PS area?

At a little shop in Seattle called the Trading Musician. Pretty famous place. I have never been able to ring a deal outta the guys, prices are set.

Been there, might go there tomorrow. I've never bought anything "big" from them, but the price tags on some of their amps were "questionable". I guess I shouldn't get into a bashing contest, so I'll zip it for now. :-/
Are they really that tight?
