Re: This is about as simple as it gets Well, my pedal sits on a pedalboard where it is constantly abused and stepped on, and other than the occasional thunk, I have had no problems. If you take the back off the pedal and thump the tube, it'll give you some commotion, but as long as it doesn't ring, you're okay. I have a list of tubes that will work in the circuit - I found a bunch that have basically the same pinout. I've tried a lot of these and I like the 6AU6 the best, followed by the 6BA6 and the 6AG6. I like using pentodes 'cause they give you more of a "crunchy" sound. Farrow http://surf.to/pharaohamps |

I like your idea of putting a 6AU6 to good use. What's the recommended B+ voltage? Are you running heater from a 6v DC supply, same as your LED indicators? Is the power supply in the same box as the pedal, or a separate chassis? I built a dual triode booster with a totally enclosed transformer, mounted inside the same chassis as the tube, and the hum was too loud. |

Re: A really simple Tube preamp - HV The hotbox is next on my list for a layout. It will be a terminal strip based layout...good for mods etc. Mike's link looks like a great starter though! Thanks Mike JD |

Do you want just a preamp or a distortion pedal??? hi there, It depends on what you want to build. If you want a preamp with lots of headroom build a Fender (uses 1 tube). If you want distortion build a tube driver. The power supply is not a problem.Just use 2 power trannies with a 6 volt secondary.Connect the secondaries and vouila. Now you have 6 volts for the filament and 250 volts for the B+.Email me.I would be happy to help you. |

I wanted to start with the most simplest tube project. Just to get me started and not overly depressed by failure. Then I would move on to bigger and better things! OK, I will take you up on the help via email once I get close to the project I want to build. Thanks! Aron |
