VooDoo Labs Analog Chorus
A local Vancouver store finally brought in the VooDoo pedal line, and I picked up the only Analog Chorus pedal they had on the 23rd. I bought it on review reputation and the true bypass (traded my Dano Chorus in on it), but when I played it last nite (into both a Silver face Deluxe Reverb and a Blackface Super Reverb) I had the following problem. Great tone BUT the thing makes avery audible POP each time you turn it on/off!! I've tried it in various positions with my other effects and even by itself and I always get that noise. I have never experienced a problem like this with other pedals, so need to find out if this is normal (in which case it goes immediately back to the store when they reopen after Xmas) or is this one faulty??

If you contact the techs at Voodoolabs, they'll tell you its because you are using the chorus with other effects that don't have true bypass (even if they are not on). Several people have reported this "answer" on the Harmony central reviews and here before. I don't know if they give a remedy for it, though.
I wonder if the "resistor to ground" trick could eliminate this pop? R.G.,Jack, anybody?

Hi

I've been using one of these for well over a year, and no popping noise. I run it directly into a non-true bypass BOSS DD-3, so I don't think that's the problem. OTOH, I had to get rid of a (otherwise)wonderful Way Huge analog delay because it gave a terrible pop when in a chain with any BOSS device. So I don't know what gives, but did you buy it new, and if so did you send in the warranty card? I'd take it back to the store, and if no satisfaction (or if they give you a new one and it does the same) I'd send it back to the manufacturer with a complaint. I don't know what problems others may have had, but I've had none. The only weird thing about mine is that batteries used to last a month, now the same batteries last two months at least in it. I'm not complaining...

Re: VooDoo Labs Analog Chorus FYI
Thanks for the troubleshooting, folks! I received a response from Josh Fiden, Prez of Digital Music and thought I should share the following for general interest: "...all true bypass pedals will make some noise when switching. i would try plugging the guitar direct to the pedal, then from the pedal direct to the amp. turn up the volume on your guitar. is the pop noticably louder than the hiss from your guitar when you aren't playing [you bet it is!!-DP]? if it is much louder than the normal guitar hiss with the volume up, then there is probably something wrong. possibly a bad ground connection..." Josh has advised me he'll make it right once they open after a holiday break.
