Re: Boss Ds-1 mod to the older version. agreed... the differences in tone and response are very subtle. and if i didn't have my 2 Japan models i would probably be content with the Taiwan version... it is nearly indistinguishable from the Japanese version and some folks would probably have a hard time telling the difference in a blindfold test. I have a B.C. Rich switching pedal board and was able to do a good a/b comparison. Like I said in an earlier post, if the Taiwanese version seems a little more brittle, i found it to be easily compesated for with the tone control. What I think would be really neat would be to modify the tone control with a dual stacked pot with an active sweepable mid control sort of like what's on a Jeckyll and Hyde on the "Hyde" side. In fact, I somewhat suspect that the Hyde side of that pedal may be modelled after a DS-1 just because of it's sonic qualities. Just a guess though... no evidence to base it on. pHiLtHy |

Diodes: Asymetric Clipping, two possibilities in direction. Thanks for the info, you all! I made some changes to the input/output caps, and did some stuff with the diodes. I ran in a few questions though, maybe someone can help me out; 1) I seem to hear a difference between 2 diodes in serie combined with one parallel (asymetric), and the other way around (reversing all the diodes directions, but still asymetric of course). 2) The other thing is the bass responds. I changed the two 0.047uF at the input (C1) and the output (C13) to 0.1uF. But I saw that there was another one in the fx-line (C3). Do I have to replace that one too? thanks in advance, Kind regards, Jsh |
