mosfet clippers ?
what spec.. would I look for in a cmos
transistor to find the hardest knee type clipping,
to be used in the feedback loop of a ts clone?
anyone get anyware with this?

I remember some chat about using pairs of MOSFETs in place od a 4049U/4069/4007-type circuit.

Was that it?

The reverse diode that is from the source to the drain of a mosfet is used but it is softer than an Si diode but not as soft as a Ge diode. I haven't measured any ultra-fast switching diodes but they might be what you are looking for.

thanks jack and don ..I am nearing my final assalt
on this ts clone but want to try everthing first..
will have to try ulta fast switching diodes ..and will try
the reverse-source/drain of the VNO300L and the IRF510
just looking for somthing abit softer than Si..but want to try everthing before rendering a verdic...I.E. printing out a whole sheet of pnp blue...

I didn't like the MOSFETs in a TS style circuit. I mean, the whole purpose of the TS style circuit I gather is to be smoother sounding than diodes to ground.

For myself, I like diodes to ground much better than the TS style circuit and in that circuit, I like the MOSFETs as described on my web page.

But let YOUR ears decide what is good with your equipment.

Good Luck!

you know guys,
This keeps coming up, I swear I'm telling the truth,
but I simply can't get mosfets in Any configuration
to sound good. I've seen wonderful looking scope waveforms,
but the problem is- they "splat" on the decay , as the note
decays to clean, you hear the splatting. Its not smooth at all. I've even tried "isolating" the mosfets with caps,
This does help, but tht's not the answer either.
I think John G. knows, maybe He'll drop a little hint?

Ed, these are MOSFETs used as clippers - like a diode. They sound good in specific circuits. I have used them many times and they are great in diode to ground circuits.

Actually I did tests with MOSFETs, Bipolars, Germanium transistors, FETs and you can get some really interesting timbres with these transistors.
