The transformer was a Stancor, 125v @ 15mA, 6.3v @ 40mA secondaries. The power supply uses a voltage doubler to raise the voltage to around 280vdc.

Transformer issues came up in a thread on open forum I think. Gil Ayan was building a rack space tube driven effects loop, 2 12ax7's. You can see some pictures somewhere around here:

He pointed out that you can get a power transformer that provides 230Vct (series connected dual secondaries) that is only 7/8" high. It can be found on Mouser's catalogue page 259 under Flat Pack power transformers, $12.  
 
Before Gil pointed that out, I had toyed with the idea of using two 6.3V filament supplies to come up with a similar scheme, where one was connected reverse across the other.
