frequency question-bass/mid/treble Sorry for such a stupid question. For a guitar signal what freq band is considered bass and at what freq does it become mids and finally at what freq does it become treble. thanks, jason |

Not a stupid question at all. Indeed, often the difference between various commercial products revolves around issues of where customers are likely to want to make a difference in the frequency content. My own personal definition of "bass" would be anything up to about halfway in the range of fundamental freqencies of the particular instrument. So, what one calls bass for a bass would be different than what one calls bass for a baritone guitar, guitar, mandolin, etc. Using this kind of functional definition, "bass" on a guitar would be in the 600-700hz zone and under. Applying the same logic, "midrange" would cover the remaining fundamentals of the instrument. So, say from about 500-600 up to around 2000hz (forgive the sloppy math). "Treble" should ideally have some impact on the first few harmonics and upward, although that would depend on the treble response of one's speakers and/or pickups. Starting around 1500hz should be safe. |
