| Gus | sound files I thought maybe the "best player" that uses ampage can record ref. waves for dist, time delay, fuzz, meaning guitar/bass/syn to a High z buffer(1meg to sim tube preamp) gutar to cable to buffer to sound card. One then can take the ref. waves and play them into their effects/amps/speakers etc. at home etc. the waves could be made advailable at someones web site for download. Things to keep in mind output Z and level from the sound card Or how do we make a sound card output act like a guitar. |

Getting good sound IN shouldn't be too much of a problem (why not use a real tube pre), but out.... Especially for effects that rely on loading the pickups (a fuzzface, for one) this might prove very difficult. For most effects it shouldn't be much of a problem though as long as you get the levels right. Effects that are used after another box get that type of signal anyway. I think sound files that are guitar-cable-effect-amp and the miked, or direct, or whatever still work, as long as they are accompanied with a recording of exactly THAT setup, clean. I'm sorry Aron, but all that delay on top sounds good, but it does distract.... Another thing: if these files are made, we'll need at least a strat and a LP. |

Yep, I cannot play without delay. I thought of this idea a while ago. Record the effects FLAT to CD, then play the CD into an amp. ahhh... How bout, everyone build one effect each, that way we have a ton of effects, then we pass the effects around - ship them from person to person. They get to try em all. hehehehe |

Most cheap soundcards don't have very good analog output filters. While we may not be able to hear this because it's the noise is at a too high frequency, try feeding this to a fuzz box and get some IM distortion... |

a way around that is to find someone with a cd burner (though I can imagine that might not always be as easy as in these parts/my circle of friends), make the samples raw audio data, burn it onto the cd, and play it on a good cd player. Still need a buffer, though. Or build a dedicated DA-converter, that hooks up to a parallel port, and with apprropriate software, and that acts a bit like a guitar. Sheesh... |

Would it help if I did stuff here at the studio? I work as an engineer for a living and have access to the very computer I'm typing on which has AMII, Protools, Sound Designer, Jam and a few other goodies that lets me master CDs as well as save stuff in all sorts of formats (wav, Real Audio, Mp3, etc) I've been planning on producing a smapler CD of guitar FX by the way. Me too. I asked about this long ago. I have 2 protools studios here both 24 bit and 16 bit with tons of stuff. I guess we just have to do it. I also have cable modem so maybe we can trade files over the internet. Aron |
