Vox Valvetone or Marshall Guv'nor ??
Looking for something to run into my old Marshall NMV head. Tried the 808 and it fell short, although great for my Twin. Anyone had any luck with the Valvetone or Guv'nor??

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

I haven't tried the Guv'nor plus on a NMV head, but on several others (JCM800, 6100). Great pedal! It's from e new series. Has more balls, but less bite than the first one. I prefer the original Guv'nor (bigger black box), as it sounds also good on my Vox AC30. The Guv'nor plus sounds crap on this unforgiving amp. The Valvetone is in fact an overdrive pedal too, as is the Guv'nor, but with less gain, more mid-hump and less treble. Very sweet sound. Sounds good on any amp. I have all three of them. Use the original Guv'nor most. If you have a TS808, you probably won't need a Valvetone. -"doc"

I think that my Gov'nor (original first black box model) sounds fantastic through a NMV Marshall. Interestingly through a Marshall it seems to maximize that Marshall low end chunk sound in a way that it doesn't through other amps ie. I used it for years through a IIc Boogie and the combination was totally different.

How does the new Gov'nor sound compared to the old one? Anyone own both?

John and Jeff,
I owned one of the first series Guv'nor pedals and loved it.
Gave up the ghost eventually! I've recently bought a new Marshall pedal, the Jackhammer and I can't say enough good things about it. Very warm and natural sounding for what is supposedly a high-gain buzz box. Killer EQ section! I use mine with a NMV Marshall.
