Has anyone built the Kay TS-1 tremolo, the circuit of which is found at the Univ. of Alberta archive? If so, is it error free as shown and can I substitute the transistor types shown? What does it sound like-any classic tunes incorporating a similar sound? Looks like a simple, but effective box!

Many Thanks,

Chris

I've built it, and I have an original. I used run of the mill transistors so you can substitute. I believe Jack Orman suggested a way to put a depth control in the circuit too and I found that it worked also.

The sound is of a cross between round, fendery amp trem and the puffy on/off pulse of a Vox repeat percussion.

Very useful, but not the BEST trem, if you're trying to emulate a Tremulator...

The coolest thing about the original is that it's in a rocker pedal that you can adjust the rate with your foot.

Other than that, it's an easy build.

Thanks for the feedback Roger. Will give it a go. If I'm feeling particularly inspired at the time, I might try to fit RG's LERA circuit in there somewhere for some cool speed up/down Lesley weirdness!
