Substitute for 747 op-amp
I'm building a tube distortion device that uses a 747 op-amp, but I can't locate this chip or any of the suggested substitutes. Does anyone know of a readily available (like at Radio Shack) op-amp that may be substituted? Thanks in advance!

It's two 741's in the same package, as if just one wouldn't be bad enough :)

If you're doing the board layout just use any other dual opamp like the 1458 or TL072 or TL082 or 4558. If not try using the "dead bug" technique that's on RG's site (www.geofex.com) so that you can use these chips.

Believe me there's nothing magic about the 747 it's just a source of noise and crossover distortion. Any of the alternatives above is *much* better.

Thanks for the heads-up!
