just a note to point out the the excellent 3ms company uses electrical junction boxes for all their products and projects.

Re: D.I.Y. Pedal Boxes
I can't recommend the 1590BB highly enough. After using electrical junction boxes for a ton of projects, it was joyful to work with aluminum and a box "just the right size" for effects building.

I think it's worth the $8 to get a box that is perfect and easy to work with.

I'm starting to feel that way too, Aron. I've done lots of junction box pedals, they are inexpensive to buy but drilling holes through thick galvanized steel is a horrible task, cast aluminum is MUCH easier. Someday I still want to try the "fur covered" junction box (like Pharoh does), maybe some knobs made out of dice and a switch made out of a toy dog with a bobbing head.

Yup, it's hard to beat the ease with which cast aluminum boxes are machined and take paint job. They also don't quiver when you step on them, which is nice. The footswitch feels more solid.

If 1590BB's are not in the stars for you for whatever reason, I still want to put a plug in for old 300-2400 baud external modems. The cases are often cast aluminum of the same gauge as the Hammond boxes, and (once eviscerated) big enough to stuff several effects into one chassis. With $30 56KB modems in abundance, yard sales should yield these up for the same price as a 1590BB or less.

The caveat is that you may have to fashion an end plate.

While aluminum may be easy to machine, you can't solder to it.

Tech 21 has a "ring" around the input or output jack with a solder lug sticking out which handles this nicely.

That's great J.D.!!!!! When you get it working, please post the results and methods to us so we can make our own stuff!
