Ryan Lussier Vox Valve Tone JRC4558D
All the good things I've heard about the Vox Valve tone has piqued my interest. I could swear I read somewhere that some of them had the JRC 4558D op amps in them. Any truth to this rumor? If they have the JC4558 which I suspect they would, aren't the the JRC's long out of production?, would there be a tonal improvement moving up to the heralded JRC? I've never much paid attention to the Tube Screamer dicussions 'cause I'm a fuzz freak but I've found overdrives interact well with some effects. Any info much appreciated.

Just bought one on Ebay (for $35!). What type of AC adapter does it use: Boss or DOD?

It uses a barrel type adaptor- no experience with Boss or DOD- I use the adaptor like on a crybaby. This pedal is definitely picky about amps and guitars. Sounds great with high end pickups(Seymour Duncans) lousy with stock Fender Jap pickups- great through a Marshall, muddy through my Blues Junior. This pedal has made me want to chuck the Blues Jr. out the window. Too bassy/muddy and no headroom. Now if those damn silverface Deluxe Reverbs weren't so expensive all of a sudden!

Boss uses the barrel type plug so I'm all set. I've got both Fenders and a Traynor, which is kind of Marshall-like. I'll see what sounds good. I've heard lots of good things about this pedal so I couldn't pass it up for $35. Surprisingly, I was the only bidder in this auction. They have been going in the high $40s so I lucked out.

Here's a link to a SF DR that's "only" at $416 with 28 hours to go. Same guy I got the Valve Tone from.
