Pumps that suck The world is full of vacuum pumps. Find a defunct window air conditioner or mini-size refrigerator that has a compressor that still runs when electricity is put on it. These things are messy, have oil inside them, but they will pull a 27" plus vaccum, and they're usually free. Hacksaw the tubes leading into and out of the compressor unit and be careful to do this so the chips fall OUT of the tube, not into the compressor. One tube blows, one sucks. Slip polyethylene plastic tubing over the metal tubes and secure it with masking tape so the tube can carry the vacuum to wherever you need it. This setup is what's running the vaccum clamp on my UV exposure unit now. |
