Re: 3ms pedal schems.
Yeah, that could work. Epoxy and/or urethane would work as well. The problem with that is that potting a board to protect cardboard is as complicated as just using perfboard IMHO.

I have this mania about reliability of amps and pedals because I had an amp fail on me the **first** time I played with a band in public. I was 16, and was good and properly embarassed. Since then I use belt, suspenders AND super-glue *<8-) and I've never had another piece of equipment fail on me in public.

Along the same lines I'm thinking of

threading the shafts on control pots so I can use nuts as knobs.

Ok, one hell of an idea! One (umm, black Hammerite I think)pedal with Huge wingnuts coming up...

Knobs are always hard if you want it "right". A luthiersīsupplier actually has some chromed stratknobs that are way cool. Iīm thinking of having a box chromed for those.

I was toying with the idea of building a fulltone2 into an engraved brass or other nice metal (gold?) case. Maybe I can get a Hammond case plated. I really like the look of hardware on rifles, my inspiration. Well, that and I could sell it at Ebay for $4000.

I do understand the need for good reliable gear but some cats take it a REAL long way!

I checked into getting Hammond boxes chromed at a local plating shop (Victoria, BC). I was told it would cost up to $15 a piece-too rich for me. I've also tried polishing the raw metal boxes with mixed results.

My favorite cheapo trick is to use the tops of dead batteries as battery clips (not my origional idea, I saw it on someone's web site, can't remember which).

Uh, for 15 cents a piece, Iīm not going to muck with acidic and possibly not-so-nice innards of a battery, just chuck them into the chemical-waste basket right away...

On the chroming; it IS expensive, I know. Iīm still pondering a way of doing this SAFELY myself, but Iīm not so sure it can really be done. Safely, that is.

Polishing aluminum boxes works, but itīs not all that spectacular. Steel might be better.

The chromed box will be a one-off for my most prestegious pedal (tubes īn all)

Chroming steel isn't bad, but does anyone know if it is possible to chrome those "mystery metal" diecast boxes?

In the US, there are some excellent spray paints that look like chrome or gold metal.
