Rat pedal mods I recently tried to look up an article on Rat mods at GEO without any luck. Could anyone tell me the mods possible on a Rat? (I'm quite interested in more volume.) Thanks Mark. |

Use LED's for clipping. This will give you more volume and that's what's done on the Turbo RAT. You can also try some zener diodes for even more volume. |

| Lou | I have a rack mount dual rat unit, will these mods work on it. I'm trying to more volume. Cheers Lou |

| Gus | If you want to keep the tone the same you could change the output buffer to a gain stage(x2, x4)you would have to make sure the in z to the gain stage was about the same as the buffer. IMO I don't like the sound of leds used ina rat type dist. there seems to be a different harmonic content due to the greater signal swing before the clipping of the waveform. |

I said it before - try germanium diodes! A big improvement. You'll need at least three to substitute one original (at least I did). Good Luck. Bjorn |

Dear Bjorn, have you tried the mismatched diode mod mentioned in GEO's tube screamers mods? Just a thought. Mark. |

Mark, No, I haven’t read RG:s paper. I did try with one original and three germaniums. Very nice. However, changing to all germaniums did sound best to my ear. I did also try several different germaniums but the difference was very subtle. Bjorn |
