Found some nice sites...
Some of this doesn't necessarily apply to music, but if we have a cd burner on our music computer, we might use it to make backup copies of games or applications which are sometimes copy protected. After wasting about a dozen blanks trying to copy 3 disks I figured I better search the 'net for some help. In the process I ran across a site that has a lot of information on cdroms and the various copy protection schemes used. It also discusses the various cd-r drives and media (which would be more along the lines of this forum):

Back to my immediate problem I found a shareware CD-R program that will handle some of the simpler copy protection schemes: CDRWIN. The program seems to be a bit buggy but it was able to handle the "TOC error" method of copy protection on several disks. (I found it best to reboot right after I used the program to record a disk— otherwise it would cause WINDOWS! to crash in the middle of the next record operation) Here's a link and the code to activate the evaluation copy:

Code to activate evaluation copy:
Name: Regged
Company: http://crcpl.topnet.pl

I also found a site devoted to MP3 utilities (...that wasn't 90% advertising! Imagine that...):

You can't believe everything you read on the Web (part 517)... The current issue of the Roland Users Group magazine mentions an upgrade to the VS-840EX which allows it to address a 1M SCSI hard drive, but strictly for backup purposes.

And speaking of magazines, the latest issue of GP mentions the Peavey/Cakewalk product StudioMix ($899) for hd recording that includes a mixer with 9 motorized faders, 18 encoder knobs, 14 buttons and transport control. The software supports 8 digital tracks, 256 MIDI tracks along with other goodies. (I believe that the digital audio card is NOT included.) It doesn't specifically mention automated mixes but with the motorized faders, who knows? (I'll have to stop by the Peavey site for more details on that.)

Later!
