You are correct, IRQ 5 was the standard for SB and you'll find that it's also taken by many new soundcards that offer SB-emulation (meaning that the sound card requires 2 IRQs). However, since SB emulation is pretty useless unless you want to play 'pong' or 'Ultima I', you can just disable this feature. Another IRQ that's often potentially free is 3 and/or 4, since one is typically assigned to COM2, which most people never use, especially now that many motherboards now include the PS/2 mouse connector meaning COM1 is free.
