Does anyone have any advice on making your own guitar cables? I'm not just talking about soldering technique but also any brand-name component recommendations you may have.

Specifically, has anyone used the GAC-1 cable from Gotham?

Thanks!

You should get some more interesting postings than this, but here's my 2 Euros worth.

I have used Klotz instrument cable and Neutrik jack plugs for about 15 years now. I still have the first cable I made with these, and have only had to repair it once (in about 1000 gigs, I guess.) I know that there are fancier cables and plugs available, but the sound quality is more than acceptable, even for fairly long leads.

As far as advice in making these, it's really just a case of using an iron of sufficient power for the earth connections, tinning all components before soldering, and making sure the strain relief leaves a bit of slack at the soldered ends.

I've never tried GAC-1 cable from Gotham, I'm not likely too because I don't fix things that aren't broken, and my cables are very reliable. I also make these cables for anyone I'm in a band with, as I get really sick of loaning spare cables on gigs!

Hope this helps

I've used Van Damme cable with Neutrik connectors for a few years now and only my George L's cable beats it for sound quality, but then again the George L's wouldn't last five minutes on the road without fixing them every few days.
