Lindy Fralin Strat Pickup...
I am interested in trying a Lindy Fralin pickup in the lead position of my '57 Reissue Strat. Does anyone know a dealer that has them in stock at a discount? Is the backplate recommended? Are there different versions available (vintage, hot, hotter)?

Fralin now has 3 styles of strat pickups: regular, high output and the SP (steel pole). I've tried both the regular and high output bridge pickups and I like them better with the backing plate. (It gives them more of a Tele bridge sound.) The new SP pickups are even better for the bridge position (which can get a bit harsh). The SP's sound a lot like a P-90 which I think is perfect for a strat!
Good luck finding a dealer who discounts the Lindy Fralins. (I'm saving my pennies to special order a RWRP SP bridge pickup- I'm up to about $2.50 so it may be awhile...)
