Bass Tone Control My Hoffner bass copy's tone control did not work since the capacitor broke. I replaced it with a 0.047uF polarised capacitor since the original could not be read, and now it distorts. Any help? |

| Ben | Try using a non-polarized cap instead. Try using a metallized polypropylene, mylar, or any other non-polarized type. As for the value, I'm not really sure. Maybe try a 0.1uF cap. |

| jason | I think that .047uF is pretty common in bass tone ckts. Try non-polorized. Jason |

What do you mean "distorts"? Are you sure this isn't just a bad solder job or intermittently connecting component crackling away? If the cap value were "wrong" then what you describe would not occur if the treble were on full (i.e., tone out of circuit) or if the volume were turned down at all. If the problem persists in spite of control settings then the difficulty is likely what I describe, either in the tone circuit or some other part of he electronics which is not connected securely. |
