Jimmy Page model pickups/electronics schematics?
Does anybody know how the Gibson Jimmy Page model pickups/electronics are installed? Does anyone have a the schematics for it?

Thanks

I've never seen a schematic for that, but I was looking into it last year when I was researching possible wiring combinations for my SG. As I understand it, Page's actual guitar had everything possible on it. Four push-pulls, and two miniswitches under the pickguard, six DPDT's total. This would give him control over at least six of the following wiring options: single coil or humbucker in bridge pickup, single coil or humbucker in neck pickup, series/parallel between the two coils of the bridge pickup, series/parallel between the two coils of the neck pickup, in/out of phase between the two coils of the bridge pickup, in/out of phase between the two coils of the neck pickup, series/parallel connection of the two pickups, and the two pickups in or out of phase with each other. I just went with four p/p's and humbuck/single for each pickup, and series/parallel and in/out of phase between the two pickups. The wirings aren't too hard to work out, once you are familiar with the basic theory. E-mail me the info on how many switches you are willing to install and which of the above wiring options you want, and I'll make up a schematic for you.

My impression of the wiring on the new JP guitar is that it is similiar to the Schector SuperRock harness from the mid 70's, which used 4 Schector Omni-Pots (push-pull with 2 sets of NC contacts and 2 sets of NO contacts). I wired up one of my LP's with this setup, although I plan to revise it so that the split coil blend positions will be humbucking.

With the SuperRock harness, the 2 tone controls would split the coils when pulled out, the lead volume control would reverse polarity between the 2 pickups and the rhythm volume pot would disable the selector switch and enable series linkage between the 2 pickups.

Do you know of a good aftermarket source for push-pull pots with long bushings (for a LP)? I guess you could always order a set from Gibson but they'd probably charge an arm and a leg (or would that be two arms and 2 legs for all 21 possible combinations?)

I've never seen them with long bushings. The superrock harness sounds like effectively the same circuit I use. I'm sure it's nice with the harness, unlike my rat's nest control cavity.

They are available with long bushings, but much rarer than standard. Gibson must have them for the JP Les Paul. Ashley Pangbourne used to use them in his "phase-switching" mod on Les Pauls. Don't know where he got them from. On that matter - he used to get phase switching on two humbuckers with virtually no volume drop, and without batteries. Anyone know how to do that?

You could try wiring it up in such a way that the pickups end up in series when they're out of phase.

Torres' Newletter #11 mentions that he now has long-bushing LP p-p pots for $14.95. You may want to check with him to see exactly how long the bushing is because with the Schector Omni-Pots, one pot position on my Nashville-made 1975 LP required routing out and removing the pot plate.
