Weird sounding wha I've got a tribute album to Jeff Beck named "Jeffology" - it's not the "Beckology" set. There are a lot of hot players like Paul Gilbert and Steve Lukather playing JB tunes. One of the tracks is "Shapes of Things" played by Stevie Salas, and in the solo he gets some really wild FX that I believe are made with a wha-wha pedal. I've seen a Dunlop CryBaby ad with Stevie Salas but that sound is obviously not done with a stock Cry Baby. How do you mod a wah to sound like that? To me it looks like a very narrow "Q" and a freq range on the high side. By the way who is this Stevie Salas? Any CD recommendations? |

I haven't heard the tune so I can't give any advise on the sound. I do know that Dunlop has a habit of hot-rodding wahs for endorsees. You probably can't get the sound from any stock cry-baby. |

I can put a sound sample of a section of the solo at my web site, if you'd like to hear it. Is .mp3 format OK? |

Stevie Salas I've heard the Beckology cd. Very good. some great known & unknown players. About the wah; very sick, and awesome sounding. Wish I knew what it was! About Stevie Salas; He's played with bootsy collins. An incredible cd to pick-up is Sass Jordan "Rats". She's an incredible Canadian singer. The disc has great, '70's blues rock, with incredible guitar playing, and writing by Stevie, very much in the vein of the song you heard. I don't normally like female singer's albums, but this is great. You won't regret buying it. Terry |

Thanks, Terry. In the Cry-Baby ad there's a band name, I think it was "Color Code" or something like that. Is it worth giving a listen? |

i had the colourcode recording, it's nowhere near the recording that Sass Jordan's Rats album is. good, but I still think you should get the Rats album. TM |
