| R.G. | Re: TS9 reissues. Good detective work. The hackles on my neck came up when I heard the 5000 unit number. It did not seem right from what I know about keeping $1B semiconductor fabs on line. I guess I'm lucky. The personal stock I have left don't have date codes, so there's a chance they're the good vintage ones at least. That squares with the feedback. I just got a couple of emails from people who bought them, and they like the change very much. I'm still trying to track down another batch. |

Just opened up my TS-10 and to my surprise I found it contained a JRC-4558D. Maybe that's why I always thought it sounded great even though not many reviews ever had much good to say about it. At the time (1986 I believe) it was the only Tube Screamer one could buy brand new. I was amazed at how inexpensive they were($39.95). I recently converted it to TS-808 specs,(I think I replaced one resistor with a jumper and changed the values of two more), and didn't notice much of a change though, still sounds great. |

Serendipity strikes!! Maybe Ibanez just adopted a "parts is parts" attitude and shipped what was cheapest. Congrats!! |

Forgive me if this has been covered a hundred times, seems like the TS-9 is always on here. Would anyone know if it is possible to convert reissue TS-9s to a true bypass DPDT switch. If so, could you let us know in a somewhat detailed fashion. Thanks. |
|---|---|
| R.G. | It hasn't been covered here. I just emailed instructions to a fellow. I'll write it up. A short analysis is to - take out the two jfets that do the electronic switching. - short the D-S holes of the jfet that was attached to the volume control (this makes the effect permanently ON) - wire a DPDT around the whole mess In answer to his questions, yes the indicator light will still respond to the pedal (assuming you didn't mess with the pedal) and no, the indicator will have nothing to do with the state of bypass. I have board diagrams for the TS, I'll work up some artwork and post it. |

R.G., I would be very interested in doing this mod. Especially since the switch on my TS-9 RI is starting to crap out on me. Could you email me the above referenced instructions? I tried to remove the switch last night thinking I might be able to clean it or something. No go... it looks like a sealed unit. |
|---|---|
| R.G. | I'd be happy to send them. The switch IS a sealed unit, but my amp-tech friend pries them open and cleans them anyways, gets about a 75% success rate for a while at least. The sealed units are often available at your better (meaning dark, old, junky and smelly) electronics parts outlets. I intend to publish detailed instructions on my web page. |
