Have a look at a Boss Dual Overdrive. (SD2, i think). This is a two channel pedal, one red channel, for serious o/d, and a switcheable green channel, (yes, the little led actually changes colour!) which has a lot less gain, but is much more "crunchy", and very suitable for rhythm playing. The red channel is quite hot, and very smooth. The whole thing is very versatile, and is almost like having a pre-amp on the floor. I don't why its not more popular, or more publicised, (I've never seen a review anywhere.) Anybody got one or have any thoughts? I think its great! Rick, Edgware, U.K. |

There are a few user reviews of the SD2 on Harmony Central. There is a link to Harmony from AMPAGE Resources. |

I was in the same boat only I am using a Vox AC-30. Ibought the Centaur and frankly am not impressed. I feel it adds way too much high end and this takes away from the warmth we are looking for. I tried a Proco RAT which was better tone wise, but a little over the top as far as overdrive is concerned. Believe it or not, I finally found the Boss super overdrive (for about 1/4 the price of the Centaur!) and man this is it! It doesn't color the tone much and really adss to the fullness of the amp. I HIGHLY recommend this pedal. |
