| nic | I don't know where this question belongs but here goes... I am wondering if anyone knows how I could build my own DIY beat counter. The company Numark makes one here is the URL: http://www.numark.com/FBC135.html I was thinking it would be useful for helping my students keep visual time with me. nic |

Seems a bit elaborate. Is a flashing metronome more applicable? |

I'm NOT an add for Craig Anderton books, but...From his book DIY Projects for Guitarists, project 29 is an LED Level Meter and from his book EPFM, project 2 is an electronic metronome. I think these two projects could easily be built and hooked up in series to give you an audio/visual metronome or the Level Meter alone might be all you need. The level meter is based on a National Semiconductor NSM3916 chip, maybe the app notes for that part would have the some info. JD |

I cant quite see how useful this would be for your students (depending what they are studying), but I can say that these things are an absolute BASTARD to design, and of course miss one beat and you are screwed up. Having said that, you could make a 'fast/slow' device (like the 'Russian Dragon.. geddit?) by having the 2 derived beats turned into square waves and fed to a phase comparator.. actually, I think that gear is good value for the price! At last a useful 'spinoff'(geddit?) from the DJ industry! |

| nic | 'spinoff' I get it, pretty good one! Well, thanks for the input on this. Maybe a 'feel' for the beat would be better instilled with more pratice rather than a machine to remind them. Hey if I wanted to get them in time I could just sample the notes and quantisize them! That wouldn't do much good though. nic |
