| moocow | Amperex 2N2512 ? O.K., the C557B transistor apparently was too easy for you guys. This one's a little harder. I recently aquired a dozen or so Amperex 2N2512 transistors with a date code(?) of 6609, TO-5 case, made in USA. The odd thing is they have four terminals, which is unusual for a 2Nxxxx component. After some measurements, I figured out that the fourth lead is connected to the case, and that these are Ge PNP transistors. I've searched the National, Motorola, etc. sites, but found nothing. My Radio Shack meter will tell me the hFE, but if anyone could share any specs on this component, I would be very grateful. Also, what is the fourth lead for ? My guess is this an RF transistor with provisions to ground the case for shielding purposes. |

According to the NTE semi cross ref book, it's a Ge if/rf osc/mixer type, with (WARNING!) max 10ma current. Everyone shd have an NTE book, they are only $5 or so!! Pin diags and all!! I remember when these came out (around 1964) this sheilded type was common for RF. |
