C557B? transistor
A pedal I am trying to trace has a C557B transistor in it.

Is anyone familiar with this transistor? Is it PNP or NPN and does anyone have a pinout?

Thanks,

It's a BC557 witha different label. It's PNP.

It's just a general purpose Si PNP transistor like the 2N3906. You may want to try a BC559 (low-noise verion).

You sure it's not a 2SC557B?

I'm very used to the Japanese transistors having the "2S" left off, but I've never seen a BCxxx series with the "B" left off. This is probably just my inexperience with the BC series, as I don't get a lot of them.

I recently dealt with a BC series transistor (don't remember which one) with the B left out. I also thought it was a 2SC series at first, but the number didn't even exist in the 2SC series.

OK, that begins to make sense then. I just had never run into one of those.

The BC series is the most commom small signal transistor series here (Brazil). In fact it's impossible to get a 2N3904/2N3906 here and the 2N2222 is a little hard to find...

I've never seen a label on a schematic with the "B" dropped but I've seen *lots* of actual transistors labelled this way. Right now on my bench there's a bunch of C237B (BC237).

R.G. this is a first for me all cxxx have been 2scxxx.
