Re: BC108 fuzzface mods
I modified one of these for a friend of mine, which turned out pretty good: changed the whole thing to PNP with selected NTE158s (90/100 gain for Q1/2), changed 33k to 39k, 1.2k with 470 ohms, 8.2k to 10k, .01uf cap to .1uf polypropylene. Basically making it a bit more like a stock FF. Sounded ten times better, even with the 2k pot.

Gus, am I right when it seems the "ritefuzz" is producing some octave effect? It seems similar to the full wave rectifier of the Superfuzz. Would attaching Q2's base to the emitter of an input buffering transistor enhance the ocatve effect, or am I way off here. Thanks, Mark

Gus Fuzzrite
yes it can give a octave up sound. If you have a scope you can see it. If you buffer the effect you should get more highs (guitar effect amp) than the guitar to the effect as it is. When I saw the moserite FUZZRITE on the web (THANKS R.G.)it looked very interesting, for a 2 transistor fuzz it has its problem as you adjust the mix the volume changes and its GE (I think SI sounds OK here). I like the sound of GE transisitors but they drift go bad etc but sometimes you need them like in the rangemaster I tried to get a SI ver to sound good it was OK but not as good as a GE (I changed the bias point etc to no advail).

Thanks for the info Gus. The circuit looks quite different from the garden variety fuzz structure. Mark

Hello, folks. I had a real Fuzzrite up until a year ago when I sold it. It sounds way different from any other fuzz I have ever heard. If you like nice touch sensitive dynamic fuzz like a Fuzz Face, the Fuzzrite is the exact opposite. Buzzy undynamic noise for days. I did not reverse engineer mine because it had the encapsulated module inside. Besides, why own an original when you can sell it for big bucks and then build your own for pocket change?

Gus,

Now you got me started. I need to build a Fuzzrite next I guess... :-)
