Hotbox volume questions I've built a Hotbox clone and have a question. The schematic is exactly the same as a Vox Top Boost design. You can find it on this site in the schematics section. The output of the treble pot then goes through a 100K resisitor and then to a 100KA pot. The wiper of this pot is the output of the effect. I am very happy withe the gain and amount of distortion this effect produces. The problem is with the output/volume. With the output knob turned only a tiny fraction of the way up, the volume is so high as to overdrive the amp it's plugged in to. Any suggetions on how to build in a more usable output control? I've tried increasing the 100K resistor mentioned above to a 470K one, but with no real improvement. Is there some way to attentenuate the output voltage? Thanks a lot in advance, Ed |

If you increase the value of the resistor in series with the output pot you will decrease the total volume that is available. Make it 470k with a 100k pot and see if that isn't better. regards, Jack

Hi Jack, I actually already did increase it, first to 470K, then to 1M. It really didn't do a whole lot. I'm getting a HUGE amount of volume out of this effect! I tried taking the 2nd gain stage out of the circuit, and it definitely lowered to volume to a good value. Unfortunately it also drastically reduced the gain. Not what I want to do particularly. Any other suggestions? Ed |

I must have misread your post, I thought you were changing the pot value. Something's strange if you increased the series resistor to 1M and it didn't decrease the output by a lot. Change the output pot to 10k-A and see if that helps - leave the series resistor at 470k or even 1M. -Jack
