Hi, perhaps I was a bit rude with the question. All I wanted to know was if the referred unit was the Super Overdrive(SD1) or the Distortion(DS1). The DS1 has a totally different circuit and it would be very surprising that Boss had changed the circuit. Anyway, the SuperOverdrive is very easy to convert to a TS-XX because the circuits are almost the same and it is a cheaper alternative to modify. Santiago |

It was actually a SD-1, not a DS-1. --johng |

| Mike Burgundy | Just to add to the general confusion; the SD1 is almost the same as a TSx, but I seem to recall my friends DS1 not being that far off either, on a first glance. IŽll open it up again one of thes days |

Hi all, the Boss Distortion is a ProCo Rat or MXR D+ type of circuit with a couple of diodes tied to ground followed by a tone control wich makes a much harder distortion than a overdrive. |

"...It even uses a 4558, although the part number is uPC4558" John In the early eighties, uPC4558 was Roland/Boss speak for JRC4558 (D or DD, depending on pedal's vintage). Similarity to 808 is uncanny, yet it sounds quite a bit different (IMHO, 808 sounds a lot better). I'd be interested to learn any mods you do to improve this still cheap-to-get nearly-not-quite 808 thing. Cheers |
