Interesting DS-1 discovery.

C.J. has been kind enough to try and track down a schematic for the DS-1 I bought a few months back. He's come up with two already, unfortunately neither matches my pedal. What's interesting is the one he sent me today.

The schematic is dated March 3, 1981 and it is a TS-808 clone. Almost exactly! What's even more interesting is that it has assymetrical clipping. Two diodes in one direction and one diode in the other direction. This is 12 years before a certain boutique pedal manufacturer claimed to have discovered it!

I would have to say that pre-1981 DS-1 pedals can be made to sound just like a vintage TS-808. It even uses a 4558, although the part number is uPC4558.

Gus	John G. I worked on/modded one about 4 years ago. It had a 4558 ic I forget the brand. I replace the 4558 with a rc5532 and changed two elec caps to film. The owner was happy. Gus

There has been a thread on Ampage about the Boss Superoverdriver sometime ago where this "similarities" are noted. One thing I'm not sure is if the Boss is a TS clone or vice-versa.

A TS clone based on the Boss stompbox would have some nice features, like:

- the mechanical assembly is MUCH more reliable than that of the Ibanez boxes;

- the FET switching works better.

Anyone interested in the schematic just have a look at my site, I've drawn it so as to enhance the similarities with the TS schematic on Leper's Schematics.

CJ Landry	John, The schematic I sent you was for an SD-1 which I believe is the Super Overdrive Boss pedal. DS or SD what ever it takes, right!! CJ Landry
